2017 Spring Hamlet Clean Up

Keeping Right of Ways Clear

Post Date:04/11/2017 6:04 PM

LETHBRIDGE COUNTY – Keeping Right of Ways Clear- In an effort to keep Lethbridge County’s infrastructure accessible to all residents and provide a clean and safe environment, the County has initiated a Right Of Way clean-up program in our hamlets and sub-divisions. Residents are asked to keep these right-of-way areas clear of debris and obstructions. The County will identify obstructions in areas that require removal. Obstructions within the County’s Road Right of Way cause significant issues with access, maintenance, and most important, the safety of residents and County employees.

Should your property be identified as having a Right of Way obstruction, you will receive a letter outlining the County’s expectations for its removal. Obstructions include items like trash, tree branches, tires, garbage, leaves, yard clippings, trailers, cars, abandoned vehicles, sheds, gardens, buildings, etc.
These obstructions fall under Lethbridge County’s Policy 303 ‘Road Allowance Obstructions’ and Bylaw 1453 ‘Highway Protection Bylaw’.

Policy 303 and Bylaw 1453 provide Lethbridge County with the authority to request removal of any obstruction and also the authority to enforce ‘Municipal Tags’ (fine system) should the obstruction remain after the given time period for its removal. Information pertaining to ‘Municipal Tags’ and both Bylaw 1453 and Policy 303 can be found on the County website at

Each violation will be inspected for compliance and 30 days will be allowed for the removal of any obstruction on the Lethbridge County Road Right of Way other than those deemed to be immediately hazardous or have the potential to cause imminent danger. These will be required to be removed immediately. The County will not survey property pins or mark property boundaries. It is up to all Landowners to know the extents of their properties and keep their belongings safely contained within their parcel boundaries.

Thank you in advance for your cooperation.
