Fire Ban
A Fire Ban is in effect for Lethbridge County.
Due to the hot, dry conditions we have been experiencing and that are forecast to continue, the wildfire risk for the region is extreme.
Under the Fire Ban, all burning is prohibited.
This includes:
- Recreational campfires
- Burning barrels and incinerators
- Charcoal briquette barbecues
- Any other open flame
- Fireworks
Still permitted are:
- Gas or propane heaters, stoves and barbecues that are CSA approved or UL certified
- Wood pellet grills
- Gas or propane firepits/rings that are CSA approved or UL certified
Fines apply for burning during a Fire Ban. Report fires immediately to 911.
The public is reminded of the dangers that smoking materials can cause when they are discarded into dry vegetation, like planters and ditches. Always dispose of smoking materials in proper containers and ensure they are completely out.
Off-Highway Vehicles (OHVs) can also start wildfires. Be sure to check often to ensure any hotspots are free of debris and that mufflers and spark arrestors are working properly.
